Know About Indian Music Culture

When it comes to the Indian music then the Indian music is as old as the religion itself. It has its origination in the Hindu beliefs, views and the Vedic philosophy.

Classical music is a complete music structures with 12 tones and 7 basic swaras like the most melodious Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa. The Indian Classical music is monophonic, formed by a single melodious raga and rhythmically followed by the beat notes or Tala. Each melody revolves around different moods or seasons and they are even based on the gender characteristics. Thus ragas are voices methods of adopting the self to the different moods or behavior patterns of the day. The basic philosophy behind the Indian Classical music is the reach to the main goal of self realization through meditation. It is based on Ragas and beat rhythms. Ragas are one of the acoustical methods to evolve one self to the moods and the different spheres of life is a way of meditation aiming to draw oneself closer to the nature. These ragas have such innate power that these compositions meant as an invitation to the rain have actually poured the unexpected showers.

Hindustani classical music: This originated during the 13th and the 14th century A.D. in the northern India. It has its origination from the Vedic philosophy and the Hindu religion traditions; it has some resemblance from the Persian music and the Moghuls music. The version starts with an introductory with a short 2 minute aalap to a long 30-40 minute piece. Rhythmically the music becomes fast and it is then joined by the percussionist. The musical instruments utilized to make these tunes more melodious are Tabla, Sitar, Taanpura, Flute, Shehnai and Sarangi.

Carnatic music has originated in the Southern India. The ragas in this music are short and fast paced. They start with versions seeking Varnam, followed by asking blessings. Carnatic music has a most theoretic and rigid musical structure. They have ragams, rhythm beats followed by the raga theme. Carnatic music is more vocal centric. The instruments used in the Carnatic music are Veena, Mridangam, Kanjira and Violin.

Kirtans and Bhajans are oral versions of musical songs devoted to God. Kirtans have their origin from the Vedic traditions; Bhajans on the other hand are more words oriented expressing devotion to God. Kirtans are carried on along with the musical instruments and Bhajans are sung with profound devotion with the intention of moving more closer to the inner self.

The other musical genres include the folk music, regional music. The regional music is the music which is played across the different states of India in different languages. Folk music are played along with the different set of musical instruments.

Know More About Chinese Music Theory

As an ethnomusicology major, I am fascinated by how global cultures view music. One culture in particular, the Chinese, view music in such a manner that I believe would change the minds of scholars here in the west if adopted. First, for me to set up my argument, I must delve into the story of how it is believed that music came to be created in China.

Legend states that Chinese music developed when Huangdi instructed a man by the name of Ling-lun to travel the Kwen-lun mountains. There he found bamboo shoots, and wishing to imitate the nearby birds in the forest of the mountains, he cut the bamboo into what would eventually create the chromatic scale through blowing 12 different pitches. This legend is important to state as it gave birth to the belief that each tone in the Lü scale has specific ties to nature.

In the Lü scale, tones like the second tone Tai-tsoh represents rain and the awakening of insects and tones like the eighth tone Lin-tsong represents extreme heat and the beginning of autumn. The significance of this tie to nature is that every note in the Chinese Lü scale illustrates the great care Chinese theorists have approached music.

This is where I believe that the Chinese philosophy of music could help western scholars. Theorists in the west tend to have a scientific, mathematical approach to music theory, but there is little questioning why. They instruct music students to follow part-writing rules of harmony, the melodic rules of counterpoint, but the only explanation they have is "this is the way it is done, and we do not question that."

I believe it is time to question that however, I believe western music theory needs to attach significance to every note played, every subtle nuance, in order to further open up the minds of composers, theorists, and musicians. Like the Chinese, us westerners need to see notes in poetic terms, not simply mathematical terms.

How we do this is complicated, as academia is quite stuck in their approach, but with enough evidence and research, I believe it can be proven that music theory's approach is limited and impeding its own progress. Music is, after all, an art form, and while rules are important, they should not be the only focus of the scholars in that field. I believe that a more poetic, metaphysical view of the notes in the western system will aid every individual involved with music, either on the side of musical scholarship, the side of musical creation, or simply the side of musical enjoyment.

The possibilities that could open up are simply there for the taking. It will just require a few brave, experimental scholars who are willing to be subjected to ridicule by their peers in order to change the view of music.

What You Need To Know About American Rock Music

Rock music is always associated with guitar. This type of music started in 1950's in the United States and was then embraced by majority of the population. Rock music was then associated to be very loud, inconsistent tempo and something that should come with great concept. American rock music was given justice and great popularity by Elvis Presley but this doesn't mean that it's usually done solo. Rock music was performed by group of 3 to 4 people playing set of instruments specifically the drums, piano and electric guitars.

When it comes to concept, fashion was a big part of American rock music. Performer of rock music ideally should come in leather jackets and pants, big tattoos and curly hairs. Without these mentioned fashion styles, a performance done by group of people playing certain rock music will never be considered a great one.

The concept of American music before revolved around sex, social concern, revolution, war, romance, love and affection and lifestyle of people. Lyrics are inspired by the current events or emotions faced by the composer that is why more people can relate to the content of each piece.

Rock music may be loud, too noisy for some or too heavy but if you look into its real concept and meaning, you will see that it's meaningful and simply an expression of something. One just need to learn to look into the stories behind each piece of rock music and surely, that person will understand the significance of this type of music to America and to its people.

The Great Significance Of Popular Music

Traditionally, popular music has been viewed as trivial and unworthy of serious academic attention. Such an elitist perspective fails to take account of the active ways in which consumers engage with popular music. This article challenges such a viewpoint, by highlighting some of the important functions it performs in the lives of listeners.

Popular music, as an aspect of popular culture, has traditionally been perceived as unworthy of serious academic scrutiny. To dismiss popular music as trivial, however, is to ignore the significant roles it performs in the lives of the people who engage with it. Moreover, in taking such an elitist view, we are in danger of dismissing all consumption of popular music as passive and missing out on an opportunity to understand how people actively use it in their lives.

Whilst popular music undoubtedly works on different levels, and functions more deeply in the lives of some people than others, consumption for the majority of us is far from passive. This article highlights some of the ways in which we use popular music actively in our lives, irrespective of the specific genre or artist.

One of the most basic levels on which popular music operates is as a soundtrack to our lives. Have you ever found yourself in the situation whereby a song comes on the radio and you are immediately reminded of a specific moment, place or event from your past? For many of us the answer to this question will be yes. This is an example of the power of music in our lives. Furthermore, simply hearing a certain song can often evoke strong feelings, and memories, which have a potent effect on mood; this is anything but passive consumption.

Enjoying Classical Music Online Is Always So Enjoyable

When our classical music radio station in Detroit closed down, I was absolutely devastated. Here I was, in a major city, and there was no way for me to listen to classic music on the radio in the car. Most cities had two classical stations at least, and at one point Detroit had as well. Don't get me wrong – public radio still played a lot of classical composers, but only during certain programs. Much of the time, I would have to bring my own CDs with me if I wanted to hear classical compositions.

That is why it was so overjoyed when I discovered classical music online. I have never really studied classical music history very much, and I don't know the music that well. All I know is that I like it. That is why it is nice for me to have a DJ to play it for me. I don't really have to think about it. I can just sit back and let the music wash over me. Classical music radio was great for that, but online radio stations are also good.

Of course, even if you are a more knowledgeable classical fan, you can still find what you need online. There are plenty of classical music downloads out there that a lot of my friends take advantage of. This is an especially good way to find the works of new composers. A lot of art music composers are absolutely desperate to find fans nowadays. They are perfectly willing to make their performances available for free in hopes that you will become familiar with their works and want to see them live. They put their classical music online and spread the word as far as they can. The only difficulty is finding out about these artists.

That is where Internet streaming radio comes in. A lot of online Internet Djs make it their business to be extremely knowledgeable about current trends in music and entertainment. They will point you to some of the hottest musicians in whatever genre interests you. A lot of people don't expect classical music online to be so fertile, but it really is. It seems that nowadays whenever a genre loses popularity in the outside world, it finds refuge on the Internet. Classical music online is no exception. Whether you are into the works of the Romantic period, the high classical composers, or more modern art music, you can find it on the Internet.

Let Us Walk Into The Classical Music World

The creation of classical music is based on how the different instruments will play together in harmony and also individually according to their grouping on certain parts of the composition. For this reason, themes and motifs are developed distinctly in just one piece or composition.

The contrast will be felt strongly through the performances of the different instruments, either according to their sections or as an entire orchestra. And that is why composing a classical piece usually takes a long period of time. The process of creating modern pop music is easier and faster. Listening to classical music will help create a blend that will attempt to weave the old and the new together, to form a familiar yet innovative music that could be appreciated by all generations.

A few artists today like hip hop star Kanye West, and rockers like Led Zeppelin and Muse, are slowly experimenting on this principle of using orchestras and string ensembles in their recordings. They have successfully given classical music a brand new package and a brand new sound.

Something old, something new, something different, is how modern day attempts to reinforce today’s musical technology with the detailed discipline and uniqueness of classical music. And this is how they improve their techniques, by putting a vintage sound or harmony in the midst of a modern musical piece, to create an unforgettable musical experience.

What A Good Music Band Really Needs

I believe that all the people need fame, money, glory, and respect. While most walk the conventional path to touch their dreams, some opt for a rather passionate way to get it. The most common passion among the younger blood is music, and the easiest and most feasible way to live the dream is to form a band.

There are really over millions of local music bands all around, who sweat it out to make a name in the real world. Although, most of these bands are good and talented, only a few survive the not-so-merry journey to glory.

A band is never an individual. In a band, it is important for its members to have similar musical influences. This brings and builds a stronger sense of unity among the members, which eventually reflects in their music. Different music bands play different genres and their music sense ranges from super-sweet melodies to dark-gory riffs. These bands should learn and understand the importance of targeting their audience. Many good bands have failed because of improper market selection and many decent bands have shot to glory by a proper audience analysis.

The younger bands should always stay connected with the local audiences by constantly playing at gigs and competitions. Irrespective of the crowd, every stage performance, boosts and brings invaluable experiences. It is also important to stay true to your music and the only key to it is regular and sincere 'jamming'.

The critical part is to keep the band together in the tougher times. When everything is sailing smooth, everyone is all happy, high and helpful, but the good times can not last forever. Difficult times often tear apart these fighting-for-fame bands. The road to rock-stardom involves high investment of time, money and physical power. Many a times these struggling musicians feel the pinch of surviving in the social world and tend to freak out and quit the scene.

It is also important to realize that serious band issues are never to be discussed with non-members or groupies. This always, plants ands grows distrust among the band members. Many bands have fallen out because of such conspiracies and insecurities.
In the end, it is essential to understand that the need of any music band is talent.

Forming a band with your close friends is always a jolly option, but only if you are looking for fun. Today, to make it big and to nail it at big concerts you need to give it all in this belligerent music scene. One should trust and respect each band member and always believe that, true talent and sincere efforts never go unmarked.

Know More About 2012 Billboard Music Awards

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards were as flashy and over-the-top as one would expect from a show located in Las Vegas. Artists sang from the stage, from the sky, and from the audience. (We saw you singing along to “Fight For Your Right (To Party)”, Carrie Underwood!) Three fallen artists were paid tribute to, Chris Brown brought his bikes, and Katy Perry brought her grandma. It all made for a jam-packed evening, though we must admit that some moments worked better than others. Head below to relive the best five moments from last night’s awards fest — and live to regret the five worst.
TOP 5 BEST MOMENTS:
1. Katy Perry bringing her grandmother as her date.
Perry reportedly broke things off with Robert Akroyd, the Florence + The Machine guitarist she was cuddling up next to during both Coachella weekends. Instead of just going stag to the awards show, Perry brought her 91-year-old grandmother, Ann Hudson, as her date, and even gave her a shout-out from the stage while accepting the Spotlight Award. Hudson also attended the 2011 Grammys with her granddaughter, you may recall. Who needs a man when you’ve got your grandma by your side?
2. Miley Cyrus’ shocking outfit.
The 19-year-old pop star looked like the long-lost daughter of Sex & The City‘s Samantha while wearing a stark white blazer — and little else. We can always count on Miley to stir the pot (when she’s not smoking it).
3. Goodie Mob paying tribute to Adam Yauch and Beastie Boys.
The one-legged dancer already won us over during Goodie Mob‘s “Fight To Win”, but the gang’s performance got even better when it transitioned into a tribute to Beastie Boys‘ Adam Yauch, who died earlier this month after a battle with cancer. Even Carrie Underwood couldn’t help from singing along in the audience!
4. Old home footage of Taylor Swift.
Before the country star took the stage to accept the award as Woman Of The Year, we got to see Swift back in the day. We love seeing what she looked like — poofy hair! no makeup! clothes without sparkles! — before she hit it big at the ripe old age of 16.
5. Idols ruled the night.
To borrow a line from Carrie Underwood’s new single, we were blown away by all the performances from former American Idol winners. Kelly Clarkson wowed with her new single “Dark Side”, and Jordin Sparks got us so emotional, baby, with her tribute to her Sparkle co-star Whitney Houston. (Watch it here.) But Carrie was the queen of the night, delivering a powerful performance of her new album’s title track. Everyone bow and worship these these Idols.

Practice Is Important To Learn Playing The Piano

The piano is one of the most popular instruments because it is versatile and easy to learn. You have to put a lot of time into practicing for it to be easy to learn. It is used as a solo instrument, an accompaniment for other instruments, or for singers. The tone is amazing, and the types of music you can play are endless. The piano is also an important foundation for all musicians, even if it is not their "main" instrument.

Many classical teachers will stress the importance of musical theory and being able to read sheet music. While this is indeed important if you are playing classical music, the casual rock and pop player will be able to get by without these skills. I want to get you up and playing tunes from bands such as the Beatles, Animals, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Red Hot Chillie Peppers and any other band you fancy, with as little effort as possible. Most guitar players have little formal training, they tend to pick things up by ear and play songs by chords, this is how I am aiming to teach you piano on this page.

Pianos can be very expensive, so if you can't afford to buy one, keyboards are an excellent, cheaper alternative. There are also some great crossovers such as digital grands from brands like Roland and Yamaha. If you can afford a piano, there are several criteria you should consider beforebuying yourself a piano. Before buying a piano, make certain you are willing to practice for thirty or more minutes each day. If you're not, then save yourself the expense of buying the piano and books or lessons. If you have the passion to learn, you can often borrow a piano from someone or get an old piano that someone is getting rid of.

Specific computer games can also help if you want to have a bit of fun while you learn. There are some free games on the Internet that can help you with both reading music and playing piano, such as 'Jayde Musica', or 'Grand Staff Defender'. There are also electronic devices that can aide in your piano practicing. For example, the PianoMaestro is a strip of lights that rests on top of the black keys of your piano. The lights guide you on which notes to play, enabling you to progress faster and stay motivated.

Practice daily for at least thirty minutes or more. Your fingers will "rust" if you do not play for even a week. However, you may find that a short break or holiday is alright, provided you practice diligently. At first, practicing might be a pain and you might get very frustrated. As your skills grow, you will become better and playing piano will become pure enjoyment. It's best to warm up at the beginning of every practice session with a relaxing finger exercise. This will stretch your fingers and hands and help you play with your hands relaxed. When you play, you should be able to see your finger bones move. Let your hand just hang and move only your fingers.

As we progress in musical knowledge I will be getting you to apply your new found skills not by practising boring technical excercises, but by applying your knowledge to play popular tunes. Every time I show you something new, I will try to give you a tune which exploits that new skill so that you automatically get practise with it!

While we will be keeping the musical theory to a minimum there will be some items that you will be required to memorize. This is unavoidable however I aim to show you the building blocks of the various chords and scales that will allow YOU to work out any chord you need on the spot. If you dont know what a chord or a scale is, dont worry, everything will be explained. It is not as daunting as it sounds.

I have been searching the internet for a page such as the one you are reading now. Many pages claim to have courses that you can purchase that will teach you how to "play piano by ear" or "learn the chord method", this website contains the same information as those courses and whats best of all, its all free.

You do not neccecarily need to have a piano at home, but some sort of keyboard instrument will be required. This can be something as simple as a $100 keyboard bought from your local music store. I would suggest a keyboard with at least 49 keys preferably full sized, anything smaller and you will be struggling to use it as your piano skills get more advanced.

In general, it's is chosen to follow and discover on a real acoustic piano. That living living being said, if you do choose to purchase just a piano initially in attendance are some clothes you must take into consideration. It's best to forever buy a piano that has slanted keys and an first-rate reproduction of a piano sound. If you choose to play on a piano with unslanted keys in attendance is a tangy possibility that you may well injure your hands. Additionally, it will be very arduous to transition from a unslanted piano to an acoustic piano. You may end up thumping many off beam notes. So, slanted piano is the way to go!

Once you purchase your piano you'll need music to start playing. A beginner's piano instructional book is a perfect solution. Not only does a book like this give you the opportunity to start playing music but it will also function as a guide for improving your overall skill level and knowledge of playing the piano.

In order to improve your rhythmic coordination you'll want to follow with a time keeping device called a metronome. In order to sound authentic and clean when playing music you'll need to make sure your timing is very tight. A metronome is a fantastic follow tool to help you achieve It's best to follow with a metronome almost all the time when practicing piano. You can make the tempo slower and faster on modern metronomes with just the turn of a dial. This is a nice strategy to implement to help you work through arduous passages of music. You can also use a metronome to help you gradually build your endurance and technical ability when playing a piece of music.

My Musical Stories Concerning To The Stage

musical stages
The gig finished last time - nearly three hours but it flew by, so many great songs and moments within songs - and I was up to the front of the stage desperate to snatch a set-list, a take-home memento; I needed a connection to this concert beyond the memories that I will always have. I had to have something tangible. I'm no longer a collector of set-lists - that phase ended a long time ago - but the Lil' Band set-list sits above my computer, pinned to the wall where I can see it.

Every night I tap away at the keyboard, I've finished work for the day but it's time to create a post for Blog on the Tracks. I may have been to a gig so it's particularly late, or I may have time to dash out the blog-post before I go to a gig. In the weekends I write too. That's my choice. But it's also something I have to do. I'm compelled to. Sometimes I'm commissioned so the choice of it is less of an option. But you have to keep trying. You have to punch the clock. Sometimes you really do want to punch it.

The audition process was not always like this. The word audition did not have its current connotation until the late nineteenth century. Prior to this, if a young man was interested in acting, he arranged an interview with a company manager, not an audition. Young Mr. Prescott would arrive at his appointment with the august Mr. Postlethwaite who was waiting in a book-filled office, a warm fire burning in the fireplace. Over tea, the company manager would ask questions about young Prescott’s intentions and interests, summing up the boy’s moral character and judging his suitability for the troupe. If all went smoothly, Prescott would be engaged as the company’s newest apprentice. He would start by playing Spear Carrier before graduating to a small speaking role—“Yes, my liege”—in another show. The grand actors of the company would perform their best Hamlets and Cleopatras, and Prescott would absorb all the training he needed through osmosis. After a number of seasons, his name would be on the bill playing a leading role. Mr. Prescott appearing as Romeo. Quaint. Genteel. Encouraging.

My favorite auditioner was a young woman who sang Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”Just the choice of song was an invitation to ridicule. That poor girl was probably no older than I was when I auditioned for The Sound of Music. But I let her sing the whole song, not because I was kind or because I thought the theater would hire her. No, I let her sing because I was so entertained that someone would earnestly sing this rock-and-roll song a cappella, swaying to the music that only she heard in her head. She was a rock star in a private universe, complete with imaginary microphone and spotlight. I let that kid think she was doing well, that I liked her, that she might have a chance. Oh, I liked her alright. That night I had my friends roaring with laughter: “This girl with leg warmers screeched out a Pat Benatar song! You'll die!”

I worked as a casting director for three years and had to give it up. There is something wrong with a job where you judge 99.9% of people as wrong. I came to view the world through ugly glasses. When I would meet anyone anywhere, shortcomings and quirks became grotesquely magnified. “It’s so nice to meet you,” I would say to a new acquaintance while thinking, “Those jeans are two sizes too small. You should sue your hairdresser. Is that a nose job?”

After I got out of the casting biz, I was hired to direct a play at a smaller theater, a company with no casting director. I had to run my own auditions. Luckily, some good actors appeared and I swallowed any impulse to laugh at them. Toward the end, I had cast the entire show in my head. All but one role. I still needed someone to play the minor, comic role of the loud-mouthed, over-bearing waitress.

The last actor walked in for her audition. She was tiny, not the powerhouse I wanted. She read from the script tentatively, messing up lines. I mentally dismissed her. But instead of cowing to the pressure and turning red or crying—she laughed. Hard and long. At herself. “It’s the worst audition ever!” she screamed. She started again, fumbled words, paused and laughed again. “Forget it! I’m nervous. I’m terrible! Thanks anyway.” She exited.

I was excited to hear the news that Lil' Band O' Gold is returning to New Zealand. I saw the band 18 months ago, just after they had released The Promised Land and were touring in support of both that and a superb documentary film, The Promised Land: A Swamp Pop Journey (click on that link to see the trailer). I've watched that film a few times now and I'll be returning to it before the show. It's heart-warming. And it gives a context for so much of the music - for the players in the band too.

Elizabethan Music Therefore Played A Major Role In That Era

The Elizabethan era is also known as the Golden Age in English history. There were many notable factors in the Elizabethan era; it saw high quality literature and fashion also underwent many changes. During the Elizabethan era, music also played a significant role in the lives of people. This was a major form of entertainment for people in the Elizabethan era. Here's a look at all the details associated with Elizabethan music.

Elizabethan Music:
The popularity of music grew to phenomenal proportions in the Elizabethan era. Unlike the scenario today, in the ancient days, a man who could not sing to win the hearts of others with his perfect voice was not considered to be a gentleman. This itself reflects the importance of Elizabethan music.

Queen Elizabeth herself was quite well versed with musical instruments. It was her love for music that saw talented composers and musicians receive encouragement for showing their skills. It was known that Queen Elizabeth hired around 70 musicians and composers for her court. These musicians and composers played various genres of music such as English ballads, church music and even lively dance music. The popularity of Elizabethan music grew and it was considered to be a norm to be able to sing or perform by people who belonged to all classes. Queen Elizabeth could herself play musical instruments such as the lute or virginal.

Elizabethan music thus entered the homes and lives of all people. Native folk music was seen being played at the dinner tables when families came together for a meal. People who belonged to the higher strata of society in the Elizabethan era were know to hire a musician to be able to enjoy music. In case of people who could not really hire such musicians, they always had at least one musical instrument and one servant who could play such an instrument.

Street music also gained ground in the Elizabethan era. This was the time when traveling minstrels roamed around town and had their tryst with Elizabethan music. Street musicians carried musical instruments that were light such as fiddles and other light percussion instruments to play various styles of music. Of course, the kind of songs sung by such musicians were more traditional in their appeal as compared to the sophisticated ballads played in the famed courts of Queen Elizabeth. Street musicians did not really last long on the music scenario and this style soon diminished to give way to tavern and theater musicians.

There are some distinctive factors about Elizabethan music. This style of music was recognizable for its rhythm. There were ways in which a particular theme was played in many ways. Some of the songs that belonged to such music in the Elizabethan era were on similar lines as the baroque music.

Elizabethan music can be broadly classified into the following categories- church music, court music, street music, theater music and town music. The church was considered to be of great significance in this era as far as music was concerned. Due to the church, a style of music evolved which was known as the choral polyphony. Music was also used as an enhancement for theater. This was seen in the plays of William Shakespeare. These plays saw the emotions being expressed through poems accompanied by music. These forms of music were used to express various emotions. Therefore, theater music reached new heights of success in the Elizabethan era.

Japanese Ancient Music

Japan's Ancient Music 5 ~ 9th century Japanese has already inherent in their music culture. Although the early Jomon era, the Yayoi era, Kofun era of music may not pass down, but according to the archaeological data and the 8th century, the codification of the " Ancient Matters in mind "," Japanese book discipline "Wan leaf set" and other literature records, Japan people already in the ancient songs, dances and musical instruments. Ancient and Qin Zhang 5 string 6 string and piano, ancient bamboo pipes flutes and spherical stone flute, ocarina flute. Beans US drum puff cylindrical. Bell metal, ceramic and wood.
Bell at the time, both as musical instruments, also used as an ornament. Duo, around the 1st century BC, the shape of the copper Tudor and Chung, Duo. Basic types of musical instruments in ancient Japan, is already complete. After entering the agricultural society, the first male and female together singing and dancing songs Ogaki (also known as Tiao song) and the witch of music and dance.

To be sure, Japan most certainly had a vigorous musical tradition before the advent of Chinese and Korean influence in the sixth century. This tradition persisted in part in popular songs, most on political and social issues, and in Shinto ritual and chant and possibly in the court music and dances that are handed down from the Nara and Heian. How much, however, of this music is Japanese in origin is difficult to determine.

By the time the Japanese begin to write about music, they seem to have developed a sophisticated musical theory that categorizes music largely on its provenance or geographical origin. While both Japanese and American musical historians classify early Japanese music as Buddhist, Shintoistic, popular, court music (gagaku ) , military music, and so forth, the early Japanese thought of music as regional styles. So, if you were to somehow transport yourself back to an educated, ancient Japanese experience of music, you would hear distinct cultures in your music rather than hear distinct uses of the music, which is how modern musicologists and audiences hear ancient Japanese music.
The Japanese classified music as gigaku , Togaku , To-sangaku , Koma-gaku , and Rinyu-gaku . Unfortunately, we have no musical notation from this period in Japanese history, but we have some idea of what this music sounded like based on written descriptions.

In the official music of ancient Japan, music was not a separable element from any other components. It was story, pantomime, dance, and acrobatics and all the musical styles were understood as music and some other component. Perhaps the most persistent fallacy that we, as moderns, bring to the experience of music is to somehow think that music can be separated off from other aspects of a performance in nineteenth century European musical aesthetics, this is called "music alone." Ancient Japanese court music, however, makes no sense without performance, pantomime, story, or dance.

The History Of Jazz Music

Jazz is actually a type of music that hadn't been clearly defined as a result of various influences of various musical traditions since its evolution. However, its stylistic roots may be traced from the combination of early styles, the Blues, Folks and Ragtime - the earliest musical style that started in the U. S. around 1800's. Jazz's cultural origin was generally recognized during the early 1910's in New Orleans. Its early development was mainly associated with the coming together of African folk music and European classical music traditions.

Jazz is among America's notable cultural achievements that has spread all throughout the world. This kind of music proved as being a music legacy that has continued to unite people in the expression of passion, freedom, emotion and life experiences. This music is usually observed as having strong rhythms but this genre could vary as musicians may have varying interpretations of the music. Today, jazz musicians use saxophone, piano, trumpet, bass and drums (to name a few) to produce a beautiful melody to this music.

Since its birth in the early 20th century, jazz morphed right into a number of subgenres and styles. The music dictionary will walk you through from the time of its birth. Let's take take a peek at how some genre was formed along with their contribution to the jazz music that we now love today.

Dixieland, also referred to as New Orleans Jazz, Hot Jazz or Early Jazz was probably created from the first original Dixieland Jazz Band - a New Orleans Group who spread the popularity of jazz music from Chicago, New York to California. The instrumentation ensemble employed in Dixieland jazz-style includes trumpet, trombone, clarinet, as well as the saxophone, while banjo, string bass piano, drums are played for the rhythm section.

Within this era of Great Depression, the big band ensemble brought relief to the American homes using their swing jazz music. The growth of the Big Band, which was comprised of 10 players or even more, made jazz music quite popular that catapulted Ellington's, Basie's, Goodman's, and Herman's music as well as music legends Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Joe Williams and Bing Crosby to superstardom during their time.

Unlike the Big Band ensemble that was made up of 10 players or more, Bebop came to being as a totally different style. It featured 4 to 6 players that played jazz music as a mix of melodies, structure and irregular duration of phrases which made this music interesting to listeners. This style was eventually viewed as one of the modern subgenres of jazz in the 1960's.

Free jazz is a radical departure from the previous styles. This extreme approach to jazz music attempted to infuse new sounds from non-Western music traditions like the music of Asia and what was considered the "Avante Garde" music. Free Jazz was described as experimental and not easy to many listeners. Change in pitch and tone quality characterized the innovation. Massive changes were attempted by this era's musicians.

Jazz Fusion, also known as Jazz-rock characterizes the fusion of the energy and new rhythms of Rock music. Fusion musicians improvised jazz music by mixing funk and R&B combined with the amplification and upshots of electronic instruments like synthesizer, electric guitar, electric bass, electronically-processed woodwind and brass instruments and much more of percussion, whilst the rhythm section used a range of syncopated repeated notes to produce beats.

Acid jazz is in reality, a term used to refer to an array of music. Out of the facets of jazz to funk and hip-hop, musicians focused more about instrumental music instead of the lyrics. It is not widely recognized as being a subgenre of the mainstream jazz given that it didn't came from traditional origins, unlike other members of the genre.

It is sometimes called electronic jazz, neo jazz, jazztronica, electro jazz. Nu jazz is a term used to refer to the blending of jazz elements with an array of musical styles. Funk, electronic dance music, soul and also the mixture of free music include the main innovations in this grouping of music styles during the 90's.

As Paul Whiteman, the king of Jazz once said "Jazz tickles parts of your muscles, symphonies stretch your soul." It is certainly the music of every soul. To learn more about the aforementioned terms, simply go to our music dictionary page.

Music Is A wonderful Friend

Years ago Joseph Addison said, Music, the greatest good that mortals know, and all of heaven we have below. Yes, music has a great impact on human mind as well as every living being, even science cannot deny the fact. There are a number of physical and mental problems which can be treated by rhythm, those include stress, chronic pain, insomnia, addictions, smoking, cardiovascular illnesses, post-traumatic-stress syndrome, TMJ, panic and anxiety, anorexia, bulimia, depression, low self-esteem, stress, creative or emotional blocks, anger, fear, sadness, hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder, stress and insomnia, anxiety and pain during birth, colic and anxiety in the newborn infant, breastfeeding, emotional armor, conflicts, infertility, cancer, anger, AIDS, infection, fear, lack of self-respect, immune system suppression, scleroderma, frustration, individual transformation, self-reflection, heightened awareness, relaxation and inspiration.
As a way of leisure and entertainment, listening to music is pretty popular today, whether it is among the young or the old. I love music, because it can comfort me when I feel fidgety, refresh me when I get tired, and bring me new thoughts when I become confused.

At weekends, I like to walk in the park in the early morning. The breeze blows gently around me while the flowers and grass start to dance beautifully. I turn on the MP3 player and listen to some light music, immersing myself in the refreshing and pleasant morning time. As for me, the nice music in the morning means a wonderful start in the day.
In the afternoon, if I have time for leisure, I may sit by the window in my room, have a cup of tea and listen to my favorite music. It is such a nice experience to enjoy the beauty of music without any external disturbance. Or I will go to a café near my house to spend the afternoon. I may drink a cup of mellow coffee, and read a book in the beautiful music. Sometimes, I just sit in the café listening to those melodious songs, which provides me plenty of comfort and gratification in the leisure time. Sometimes I may call one of my friends to have a coffee with me. Even when we are talking, I would like to communicate with others in an environment full of light music.

When I take part in a party, I will also pay attention to the special music in such occasion. Some are so gentle and some are so exciting. Different music will bring you different feelings even in the same place when you meet the same people. I usually regard it as a pleasure to involve myself in the music. When I listen to light music, I would like to stay in the chair and enjoy the gentleness. When I listen to disco music, I prefer to dance with my friends together.
Going out for a trip, I will take some multimedia players as well, such as MP3 and iPod player. In holidays, I like travelling by car with my friends. When I drive on the road, my favorite hobby is to listen to high-quality music in the car iPod. The compact size, large capacity and high sound quality make the car iPod player become my favorite device when I stay in the vehicle.

No matter where I am, especially when I am alone, I enjoy listening to music. The music will help me get rid of bad feelings and bring me refreshment and relaxation. It becomes one of my friends in the daily life, and it is really a wonderful companion.

People may vary in the preferences of ways of leisure, but, I believe, those favorable hobbies must offer people enough amusement and make people feel pleasant. Then, what is your favorite way of entertainment?Music is the food for soul that heals the emotional wounds thereby flowing tranquility within, through mind to body and invigorating the complete existence.

How To Release Your Music Online

You have three different choices for charging for your music: free, pay-what-you-want, and a set price. Each has their own advantages and different services that work better. Knowing that, let's break down the best places to upload your music based on how much you want for it.

If you're releasing your first set of songs, you might want to start by giving your Music away for free. This helps people find it and share it. It also gives you a chance to get feedback from friends and family. You have a few good options to choose from here: Soundcloud: Soundcloud is the easiest to use free music upload service. It takes just a couple clicks to upload a song and once you do, you can embed your music everywhere from Facebook to your Tumblr account. You can allow people to download it, stream it, and if you choose you can even allow people to remix it. It's also a free way to connect with other musicians, follow artists you like, and create a small community around your songs. But the biggest appeal? You can allow people to comment anywhere in the song. This means you'll get personalized feedback on each section of your song. It's hard to get used to all the criticism, but it will help you improve in the long run.
Reverb Nation: If there's an equivalent to Myspace out there right now, it's Reverb Nation. Part social network and part personalized website, Reverb Nation allows you to put tracks online for streaming, share them on Facebook, and showcase your bio and upcoming shows. It's a bit clunky to look at, but it's free and gets the job done.
Upload to the streaming services: If you're interested in the streaming services,Spotmeup is a free tool to submit your songs to Spotify and Pandora allows independent artists to submit songs, but has to approve them first. Other streaming services likeRhapsody and Rdio require you to go through a distribution service (we'll get to how to do this below).
RPM Challenge: February 1 marks the start of the RPM Challenge, a contest where you're tasked with writing, recording, and releasing an album within the month of February (similar to how NaNoWriMo works for novels). If you're up to it, it's a great place to upload your new songs and get feedback from others taking part in the contest.

So Much Benefits Of Music

Many studies have been conducted to find the deeper benefits of listening to and playing music. From sci-fi notions of increased fetal development to everyday emotional healing, the growing field of music therapy is presenting increasing amounts of evidence that points toward the greater powers of music.
Emotional benefits
The right song can put anybody in a better mood and soothe emotional turmoil. We all go through our phases, and most people will turn to certain songs to improve their moods. The main reason behind this phenomenon is that music has the ability to verbalize and express our feelings better than any other medium. Additionally, we have favorite songs for particular situations because we tune into the melodies that capture our vibe the best.

To enhance the relationship between your emotional state and music, try creating associations among songs and moods. This way, when you feel a certain way, you will know exactly which song or CD to listen to in order to give you the lift or the calm you need in any given moment.
Music and exercise
Have you ever noticed how pumped you get when listening to an AC/DC song while doing a chest press at the gym? Now flip your iPod to Nana Mouskouri and take note of how much heavier those plates got. It has been suggested that stimulating music can actually increase muscle tension, while sedative music decreases the muscle tension.
It has also been documented that music can improve motor skills. An experiment conducted on a handful of elementary students proved that children learning basic motor skills such as throwing, catching and jumping while listening to music did better than those who practiced the same exercises with no music. Maybe if MLB players were given some headphones during a losing season, such as the Royals in 2006, they could turn that season around.
Chronic pain relief
Music has the ability to ease the perception of chronic pain. In fact, according to a paper in the Journal of Advanced Nursing, music can reduce chronic pain by up to 21%. The paper reports that 60 patients participated in a controlled clinical trial and were subdivided into two groups -- music and no music.
The results revealed that people who listened to music for an hour each day for a week had improved physical and psychological symptoms compared to those who were deprived of music.
As stated earlier, music can put you in a better mood, which can advance recovery time since a positive-thinking patient almost always recovers better and faster than a patient filled with negative energy. Music shouldn’t be considered a first-line treatment for your chronic pain, but once medical treatment is underway, a healthy dose of your favorite tracks can help ease the suffering.
Better grades
According to the American Music Conference (AMC), music won’t rot your mind -- in fact, it’s actually good for your thinking-cap. The AMC has cited research that has shown that studying and creating music may help improve your capacity to learn other subjects and get better grades overall.
Apparently, the human brain works very much like musical note patterns. Whether or not the style and depth of the music plays a role has yet to be determined. All we know is that the thought patterns that arise while creating music help increase language learning, math skills and social skills -- among others.
Developed interaction within the brain
Short of mentioning the cortex and the subcortical layers, some research shows that people who play music have a more developed interaction between their left and right sides of the brain.
The experts claim that music functions as an exercise for the transmission of signals in your noggin. These transmissions are used for the activation of other mental duties.
The “Mozart effect” is the most popularly known notion, in which it was demonstrated that listening to classical music, more specifically to a Mozart piano sonata, increased the measured results on the Stanford-Binet IQ test by eight to nine points.
In a similar exercise, rats were exposed to the same music and displayed an increase in their skill in a maze experiment.
Universal language
An obscure band from Australia, The Cat Empire, once said that, "Music is the language of us all," but there has to be more to music than the simple grooves that accompany our drinking habits while we incessantly try to procreate. And there is: ask any American backpacker what subject comes up when they are at a conversational-standstill with an Argentinean that doesn't speak English -- invariably Led Zepplin, Metallica, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, and Pearl Jam will be discussed.
The one underlying fact throughout all of the research is that music plays a positive role in many areas of human development. Also, it is unknown exactly what the specific effects of different rhythmic patterns play in each of the areas discussed here. Let’s not forget pitch frequencies, harmonies and arrangements among numerous other variables that make music research difficult to pin point. The world of music is infinite, and establishing patterns in its effects might take a little longer than expected.
coda
Whether it is fact or fiction, the great powers of music are undeniable. From trying to increase you’re learning ability to simply kicking back to your favorite song with a cold brew, music seems to have a positive effect on absolutely every individual who can hear a harmony.

Music Makes You Feel Great

If you are a music lover, then you will appreciate how listening to classic hits of blues, emo or indie songs from your own collection is amazing. It makes you feel great when you pull out a copy of an authentic music video and play it for your guests. What you have acquired over the years says quite a lot about you. You can tell a story by just looking at what you own as each piece of music represents a certain point in time in your life.
Can you say that your collection of music shapes your attitude and outlook towards life? Not much can be said about that for sure. But what is certain is that your own acquisition gives you a sense of joy and pride. Just peering over it gives you an unexplained feeling of satisfaction. You simply know that is all yours. This is great especially when you share it with the people you love. Imagine spending a quiet evening watching music videos you bought over the years with your wife or loved one? The feeling is amazing, more so if they enjoyed it as well. You are proud that what means so much to you can bless someone else as well.
Owning a good collection of authentic music gives you a great time when listening to it. The high quality of the folk, alternative, emo or indie songs can not be compared with anything. The sound definition of the music is excellent. This is one of the benefits of owning your own music. You enjoy it as it was produced. The pain and frustration of straining to hear through copied and scratched music is avoided. Having your original music allows you to make your own copies. This is only allowed if you intend to use it personally and not for sale. You can compile a copy of your best songs and listen when driving.
A good collection of music is like treasure. You will agree that not many people are allowed to touch and meddle with the music you have acquired over the years. If you are lucky, some of the original music you bought many years ago could be worth quite a fortune presently. Equally, if you liked certain music and failed to buy it then, you will be surprised that it is quite difficult to lay your hands on it today. However, with your own collection of blues, emo, indie, alternative or folk songs classics, you will not have to worry of such inconveniences. If it is possible, make it a habit to buy what you like. You never know what will happen in the future. Can I hear you say Michael Jackson?
